Behind the Wall

dir. Bat Sheva Guez

This narrative short film is a portrait of a dancer who is convalescing in a dilapidated apartment in Brooklyn. The apartment takes on a kind of life of it’s own – it’s creaking boards and radiators seem alive – and peering through the cracks in the walls reveals an alternate world…

There’s next to no dialogue in this film – and I was able to incorporate many of the natural sounds of the steam hammer and pipes into my soundtrack, crossing over into the sound-design side of the picture. The music is dense and frenetic – multiple tracks of prepared piano and found percussion mixed with extended techniques from strings and winds.
