dir. Rachel Libert
Rife with emotion, Beyond Conviction is a documentary feature from Oscar winning producers Todd and Jedd Wider and director Rachel Libert. The film is a profile of an experimental program that reunites crime victims with the perpetrators in an attempt at reconciliation: a young woman meets her mother’s murderer, a mother confronts her son’s killer, a woman comes face to face with the man that raped her.
The score’s role ran contrary to many soundtracks—rather than underscoring the drama the music was often used to diffuse the intensity of the meetings. It is also one of my more electric scores with guitar, mellotron, organ, and lap steel featured.
The film premiered on MSNBC in 2006 and was featured on Oprah.
