A German production shot all over the world, Comrades In Dreams tells the story of four grass roots film organizations and the people who created and sustain them. In locations as varied as Burkina Faso, North Korea, India, and Wyoming, the lives of these avid film devotees are shown to have much in common despite the thousands of miles that separate them.

My soundtrack needed to unify these disparate settings, while at the same time keeping a foot in their cultures musically speaking. Strings, guitar, dobro, and piano are combined with sitar, mrdingam, and various African percussion.

Comrades premiered at Sundance in 2007 as an entry in The World Cinema Competition.

“Original soundtrack by Mark Orton skillfully incorporates the regional flavor, but maintains a consistency that prevents jarring transitions.”
