Felix Austria!

dir. Christine Beebe

Felix Austria! had its premiere at Canada’s prestigious Hot Docs festival. It tells the story of Felix Pfeifle, a Europhile and aesthete whose fascination with the Hapsburg dynasty leads him to an eventual meeting with the last heir of the holy Roman emperors: Otto Van Hapsburg himself. The film is shot in multiple far flung locations, globetrotting from California and New York to Germany, Austria, and Serbia.

Christine and I had a great working relationship – she allowed me a lot of freedom to experiment and I had a lot of fun with this score, working with a great Balkan Brass band for much of it, alongside music supervisor Thomas Golubic. Music cues from this film have since found their way into some of my other films including Nebraska and My Old Lady.
