The Good Girl

dir. Miguel Arteta

The Good Girl, directed by Miguel Arteta, was my first feature film score. The plot is centered around a married woman who engages in an illicit affair with a young co-worker who considers himself a modern version of Holden Caufield. Set in a grim discount store called “Retail Rodeo,” a dark comedy unfolds as she is forced to choose between her staid life and “Holden’s” romantic delusions. The film stars Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal and features great turns from John C. Reilly, Tim Blake Nelson, and Zooey Deschanel.

I was brought in at the 11th hour to score several difficult cues – with the members of Tin Hat Trio performing, including some beautiful chamberlin playing from Rob Burger.

The Good Girl premiered at Sundance in 2002.
