dir. Laurie McLeod
Waterhaven #1 (LuoYong’s Dream) premiered at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, MA in the summer of 2004. It is a kind of underwater ballet- Luo Yong Wang performs entirely submerged, without tanks or other breathing apparatus. The film’s footage is drawn from this as well as related images. It is then projected into an installation that is at times seen through a standing waterfall.
My score is largely textural. Built from audio cells: multiple passes of a single instrument (20 tracks of violin, for instance) with occasional melodic rushes and shimmers, the sound ranges from quiet ambience to large orchestral swells.
